Christianity and The State have had a rocky relationship since Jesus offered the fresh idea of paying taxes to Caesar while worshipping only God, who owns everything anyway. Following Christ divides our loyalties, holds us accountable to higher standards and values and puts us in conflict with parties and organizations we identify with. Our political agendas are irrelevant to Christ’s mission unless our agenda is Jesus’ agenda. Jesus obeyed God above and before all others. We are called to the same loyalty.
