Genesis 42:18-28; John 21:1-6
Having sold their brother Joseph into slavery in Egypt, the other sons of Jacob do not know what happened to him. When they enter Egypt as Israel’s sons during an economic upheaval in Canaan, they have no idea that brother Joseph is there. They arrive not to struggle with Joseph, but with God, who has been in control of the story of Joseph and his brothers all along. It is on the third day that Joseph gives his father and brothers a way to live.
